Dixie Chicks rule the roost for audience
By Sandy Davis, Daily Oklahoman
Three sassy women with the hottest tour on the road showed Oklahoma
City how to "Fly" Saturday night as the Dixie Chicks brought their show to the Myriad Convention Center arena.
Chicks Natalie Maines, Martie Seidel and Emily Robison emerged from a denim-blue curtain fashioned after a pair of
jeans and started right up with the fiddle-laced "Ready to Run."
Every song was received with great enthusiasm by the
crowd, who sang along with Maines.
Their close harmonies were shown well in "There's Your Trouble" and "I Could Love
You Better."
The Dixie Chicks are bringing back traditional country sounds and tunes to an audience used to the cookie
cutter sounds currently coming out of Nashville.
Seidel's fiddle playing was amazing and seemed almost effortless.
Her sister, Robison, played guitar, banjo and dobro during the show with equal talent.
Maines had a blue electric guitar
slung over her shoulder, adding even more sound to their trio and their very talented backup band.
Opening act Patty
Griffin was a bit of a shock to some audience members. Her alternative music was a far cry from the stone country music the
Chicks brought to the stage.
Griffin, who wrote "Fly," both the title song of the Dixie Chicks' current album and theme
of their tour, played everything from head-banging rock to sweet ballads. The audience favorite was a song from her upcoming
album "Trouble Number Two."
The audience was in the thrall of the Chicks, who charmed and cajoled an already appreciative
crowd.
Maybe a button sold at their merchandise booth says it best.
Chicks rule.
